Chemical Biology
The elucidation of biological processes employing small molecules as probes which interfere with protein-interactions is the core strategy of
Chemical Biology
. It is a typical postgenomics discipline with growing importance for the systematic analysis of cellular communication.
Thus
the
Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology e.V. (DECHEMA)
the
German Pharmaceutical Society e.V. (DPhG)
the
Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology e.V. (GBM)
and
the
German Chemical Society e.V. (GDCh)
founded a
'Common Chemical Biology Division'
on May 10, 2005 during the
BioPerspectives
conference at Wiesbaden. It is open to all members of each society interested in the subject with no additional fees charged.
Main goal of the division is the lauch of the
ChemBioNet
serving as an expert and resources network to support Chemical Biology in basic research.
Board
The board which was elected at the general assembly on December 5, 2005 consists of nine members:
Ronald Frank (HZI Braunschweig), Andreas Kirschning (Hanover University), Eberhard Krauß (MPI Dresden), Imgard Merfort (Freiburg University), Jörg Rademann (FMP Berlin), Matthias Rarey (Hamburg University), Roland Stauber (Mainz University), Hilmar Weinmann (Bayer Schering Pharma AG, Berlin) und Karl-Heinz Wiesmüller (EMC microcollections, Tübingen)
They represent all relevant disciplines, i.e. bioinformatics, organic chemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology. Chairman is Ronald Frank, vice chairman is Jörg Rademann
